We have a tattletale in our dental office, too. Our tattletale is an oral care product that exposes the plaque on your teeth. Plaque is a sticky, soft and nearly colorless film of food debris and bacteria that clings to the biting surfaces and grooves of your teeth, the spaces between your teeth and your gum line. If plaque isn’t removed every day, it hardens into tartar. Only a professional cleaning will remove tartar from your teeth.

Infection Affects a Tooth
A common dental issue is a toothache, one symptom indicating you have an infected tooth. A toothache typically is caused by bacteria that have entered your tooth’s pulp chamber either because of decay or a trauma that damaged your tooth.
When you have a toothache, we have treatment options that depend on the severity of the infection.
A minor infection usually responds well to our customary treatment, which is to prescribe an antibiotic to kill the bacteria and perhaps a pain medication to ease your discomfort.
A more serious infection may require root canal therapy. Root canal therapy saves 17 million teeth every year according to the American Association of Endodontists.
An infection may be so severe that the tooth cannot be saved, which means we would extract the tooth. An extraction is used only as a last resort.
The best home treatment to protect your oral health is to regularly brush and floss. Brushing and flossing remove food particles and bacteria from your mouth and teeth. It also helps for you to cut back on eating sugary foods that attract those decay-causing bacteria. Finally, have regular dental check-ups.
